After months of speculation, the designer behind Kate Middleton’s wedding dress has finally been revealed!

The soon-to-be Duchess of Cambridge walked down the aisle in a stunning lace Alexander McQueen wedding gown designed by Sarah Burton.

Kate completed her look with a simple veil held in place by a Cartier “halo” tiara lent to her by the Queen and diamond earrings, a gift from her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

The official Royal Wedding website says the bride chose Sarah Burton and the the house of McQueen “for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing”.

The site adds:

“Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterises Alexander McQueen’s work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress.”

The dress itself features a lace applique of hand-cut flowers on the bodice and skirt made by the Royal School of Needlework.

All fabrics used were made by British companies and included English lace and French Chantilly lace, ivory and white satin gazar with the underskirt made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace.

The back of the custom McQueen gown was finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops.

Kate also wore hand-made McQueen shoes made of ivory duchesse satin with lace hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.
